Did you spend a little too much time in the sun? Try using this incredible body lotion to soothe your sun burnt skin.
With the summer months fast approaching many people will be looking to spend some extra time in the sun - by the pool, on the beach, or at a backyard barbecue. Sadly, not everyone will remember to apply (and reapply) the proper amount of sunscreen and in a few cases this will result in a case of sunburn. While commercial lotions are available to treat sunburns, some people prefer to stick to natural alternatives. In this case, you may want to make your own sunburn lotion. One great lotion effective at both cooling and healing your sun damaged skin is a tangerine body lotion. In order to get started you'll need to gather the following ingredients:
To begin the process you will need to take the shea butter and melt it on the stove over a very low heat. Try to use a pot that you don't mind reserving for "non-cooking" projects so that you can avoid cross contamination (ie. lotion that smells like food or food that smells like essential oils). After you have melted the shea butter you will need to remove the pot from the heat. Once removed, add the vitamin E oil, aloe vera gel, and the tangerine essential oil. You are using tangerine oil because it has hydrating and healing properties - both properties your dry, sunburnt skin really needs in order to rejuvenate. Blend all of the ingredients together with a whisk and then allow it to cool for a few minutes. You will be able to see the mixture begin to set and once it does you'll need to begin stirring the mixture with a small hand blender. This additional stirring will keep the ingredients from separating and will "whip" the ingredients together. You will know when to stop blending the ingredients when your lotion looks like a light, whipped icing. Transfer your completed product into your storage containers, allow them to cool completely, and then apply the lids. Once you are finished you will have an amazing tangerine body lotion that both smells great and soothes your skin. You may want to make a few extra batches - everyone you know will want you to share! Tip: Not fond of the scent of tangerine? Try using rose, palma rosa, or neroli oil instead. Each has a distinct, non-citrus scent and will give you the hydrating effects you're looking for. Essential oils such as ylang ylang, cedarwood, and lavender - all great for dry skin - will work as well.
